Good news for motorcycle enthusiasts! German automotive company BMW Motorrad has launched its new hyper-naked roadster motorcycle, the BMW S 1000 R, in India. This bike is renowned not only for its speed, but also for its powerful performance, attractive design, and high-tech features. This motorcycle has an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹19.90 lakh. Available as a completely built-up unit (CBU), it can be booked at all BMW Motorrad dealerships across the country.

In our test ride of the BMW S 1000 R, the bike felt smooth, responsive, and predictable, whether navigating tight corners or cruising at high speeds on the highway. The slick gearshift, robust torque delivery, and electronic riding aids fully confirm its suitability for Indian roads.

Design

This roadster-style bike features a split-face LED headlight, sharp body lines, and a minimalist look. The rear section is short and clean, with LED indicators that incorporate the brake and tail lights. Customers can choose from three color options: Blackstorm Metallic (standard), Bluefire or Mugello Yellow (available with the Style Sport package), and Light White Uni (exclusive to the M Motorsport package).

BMW has provided a front wheel-oriented seating position for the rider, a dual-adjustable handlebar clamp, three seat height options (810mm, 830mm, 850mm), and a comprehensive suspension setup. This makes it suitable for both long rides and city traffic.

Power and Performance

The 2025 BMW S 1000 R features a 999cc, inline-four cylinder, DOHC, water/oil-cooled engine that produces peak power of 170 bhp at 11,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 114 Nm at 9,250 rpm. This output is 5 bhp more than the previous model, resulting in noticeably more powerful performance.

The final drive ratio has also been shortened, further enhancing acceleration. As a result, the bike can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The optional M Endurance chain offers improved traction and requires less maintenance.

Features

Standard features include a 6.5-inch TFT display, smartphone connectivity, navigation, USB charging, ABS Pro, dynamic traction control, hill-start control, and three riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic).

For customization, the company offers the Dynamic Package (dynamic damping, Pro riding modes, gear shift assist) and the Comfort Package (keyless ride, cruise control, heated grips, tire pressure monitoring). Meanwhile, the M Sport Package includes a motorsport-inspired paint scheme, sport seats, a lightweight battery, a GPS lap timer, and carbon/forged alloy wheels.

Electronic Safety Systems

  • ABS Pro (Cornering ABS): This system modulates the braking pressure based on the bike's lean angle during braking, providing the rider with precise control, enhanced safety, and stability – especially when braking while cornering.
  • Dynamic Traction Control (DTC): Prevents wheelspin and tire slippage, even at high speeds.
  • Hill Start Control (HSC): Makes starting on inclines incredibly easy.
  • Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR): Prevents rear wheel lock-up during downshifts or engine braking.
  • Ride Modes: Rain, Road, and Dynamic – three distinct riding experiences. Premium variants also include features such as Riding Modes Pro, Wheelie Control, and Dynamic Brake Control.

BMW S 1000 R Price

The new BMW S 1000 R has been launched in India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) model. Its ex-showroom price is under 20 lakh rupees. The company has started accepting bookings at all authorized BMW Motorrad dealerships. On some platforms and dealerships, the price may vary slightly due to green tax, cess, or other charges. In major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, the on-road price can range from ₹21.5 lakh to ₹25 lakh (including RTO, insurance, and accessories).
